Krav Maga is a modern, practical and extremely effective self-defence and fighting system developed initially for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israeli security forces (also known as Shin Bet and Mossad). What is Krav Maga?
Israeli Krav Maga is a type of military contact combat that encourages students to avoid confrontation. If this is impossible or unsafe, it promotes finishing a fight as quickly as possible. Attacks are aimed at the most vulnerable parts of the body, and consequently even training may result in severe injury.
Krav Maga aims to train your awareness and instinctive reflexes, focussing on defending yourself and your loved ones in real-life situations. Its philosophy is built on developing physical aggression and simultaneously engraining defensive and offensive manoeuvres in your system.
Krav Maga Techniques
From its conception, the aim of Krav Maga has been to combine the most practical, tried-and-tested techniques from other martial arts (such as boxing, wrestling and street fighting) and make them easily teachable to military conscripts. Consequently, Krav Maga techniques include strikes (derived from karate and boxing), takedowns and throws (derived from judo, aikido and wrestling) and ground work (derived from judo and wrestling).
On top of that, Krav Maga has developed its own techniques, which combine defences with successive strikes. These include escapes from chokes and holds and empty-hand weapon defences, followed up by strikes such as foot stomps, groin strikes and headbutts.
